After about 20% of Arizona’s polling stations had problems reading ballots, Bill Gates, Maricopa County Supervisor, apologized. This was just hours after Election Day polls closed.
The Arizona county explained that some machines were having problems with their printers, and weren’t producing enough ink for ballots.
Gates stated that out of the 250,000 in person votes cast on Election Day, “the Lion’s Share” have been reported and counted. However, 7%, or approximately 17,000 ballots, were dropped in a dropbox and were still not counted due the printing errors.
“Apologized yesterday. It will be done again today. We cannot repeat what happened yesterday. We are already closely reviewing what happened. Our team was able yesterday to find a solution for what happened. This allowed the votes centers to go back online. We will do a deeper dive on this. This board will investigate exactly what happened and will take the necessary steps to correct it.

Gates denied the notion that there was any criminal activity or other foul play, but acknowledged that “yesterday wasn’t a perfect election.”
He stated that there was no basis to say that the statement was ‘criminal’ or “rigged”.
