Oz Lose Pennsylvania by Putting His Head ‘in to the Sand’ on Abortion: Prolife Leader
Mehmet Oz’s inability to win a Pennsylvania Senate seat is partly due to his refusal to take a position on abortion in an “mature, deliberate, and principled fashion”, a major prolife leader stated on Wednesday.
Marjorie Dannenfelser, President of Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, applauded those candidate who aggressively outlined their stances on Abortion, explained the extreme stances of their opponents, and then exploited that contrast between them.
She said, “Works every single time.”
Dannenfelser said that candidates who adopt the ostrich strategy (which is burying their heads in the sand and hoping it goes away) or the possum strategy (which is pretending to be dead and hoping nobody notices that your body is lying there), are conversely losing. “And I believe that our Pennsylvania candidate is an example.”
The Roe v. Wade case was overturned by the United States Supreme Court during the election cycle. This was the result of candidates such as Oz, who lost because he “hoped the issue would disappear” rather than confronting it head-on. Dannenfelser said that Oz lost because he “hoped the issue would go away”.
Dannenfelser stated that Oz, who conceded Wednesday’s race , sought political advice from Washington, D.C., where he and other candidates were urged to pretend that the abortion issue didn’t exist and avoid it as much as possible.
Oz stated that the federal government should not have any involvement in states making their decisions about abortion. He was responding to a question regarding a federal ban on abortion. “As a physician I’ve been there when there are some difficult conversations taking place. I don’t want any federal government involvement in this.
Oz repeatedly referred to this doctor throughout the election cycle. He was repeatedly questioned by liberal and conservative media about his abortion record (his past comments indicated he supported abortion, but he maintained that he was prolife).
He didn’t go any further than that.
Dannenfelser insists that “Defining who you are, defining who they are, and exploiting that contrast will work every time.” “But they engaged in political malpractice, which is to advise the ostrich strategy or the possum strategy, or any other analogies that lead to a dysfunctional and unfavorable political environment in which these contrasts cannot be made. The positive contrast cannot be used to win marginal victories at the polls.
Dannenfelser gave examples of candidates who were “very effectively” positioned, including Marco Rubio and Ron DeSantis from Florida. J.D. Vance in Ohio; Ted Budd in North Carolina; Herschel Walker, Georgia; Brian Kemp, Georgia; Mike DeWine, Oklahoma; Kevin Stitt, Oklahoma; and Kristi Noem, South Dakota.

Dannenfelser explained that “We win when our position is popular, clear, and confident, and that position is contrasted with our opponents.” “And in this environment that is because our popular position contrasts well with 100% abortion until the end, paid by taxpayers.
She said, “Those are very important highlights since they have been so prominent and there will be a lot analysis of why they have landed where they have.” “Brian Kemp signed a heartbeat law, which was won by 8%. Mike DeWine signed the heartbeat law, which was won by 26%. Greg Abbott signed the same. It was a trigger law with protections and it won by almost 12%. Ron DeSantis signed the pain-capable law in 15 weeks. He won by almost 20%.
She said, “This is the basic rule of politics that works.”
