According to the Associated Press, Jahana Hayes, Democrat Representative in Connecticut’s 5th Congressional district, will win re-election. She will defeat George Logan, the GOP nominee in the state’s tightest congressional race.
Despite Biden winning the district by 11 points in 2020. Logan came within 11 points of Hayes’ lead during the final weeks. The race shifted from “Likely Democrat” to a tossup, according Fox News Power Rankings.
Hayes, the first Black woman elected to Congress from Connecticut was elected by double-digits in her last two campaigns in the district that runs along Connecticut’s western border to New York.

Logan is now a government affairs official at Aquarion Water Company. He previously served two terms as Connecticut’s state senator before he was defeated in 2020.
The GOP nominee, who was endorsed by both the Republican and Independent parties of the state, tried to present himself as a moderate. He focused his campaign on inflation, economic concerns, and supported access to abortion in “late-term” situations, but not in those areas.
Although Connecticut has made Roe v. Wade state law, the two candidates disagree on the federal approach to abortion policy. Hayes supports a federal Roe codification while Logan considers it a federal overreach.

Vice President Kamala Harris visited Connecticut to discuss abortion with Hayes, as Republicans gained ground in the district in October.
Logan criticised the event as a “missed chance” to discuss inflation, the economy, which are issues that Connecticut voters ranked high on their agenda this election cycle.
