Times Has Second Thoughts // John Hinderaker
The day is near when the current mania for drugging teenagers and carving up their bodies into pills will be seen with horror as one the greatest crimes of the 21st century. The New York Times wants to be somewhere in the middle of the trans-fad.
The Times story headlines: “They Paused puberty, but is there a cost?” This is a great question! The subhed says: “Puberty blocking drugs can ease transgender youths’ anguish and allow them to weigh their options. However, concerns are growing over the long-term effects on the body and other consequences.
Here’s a paragraph from the lengthy article:
31 psychologists, neuroscientists, and hormone experts from all over the world called for more research into the effects of brain blockers in a 2020 paper. Dr. Sheri Berenbaum is the head of the Penn State gender research lab and one of the paper’s authors. “We don’t know.”
Puberty blockers are in one sense the least of it. We know what happens when doctors remove a boy’s penis, or take out a teenage girl’s breasts and genitals. We don’t know what the long-term psychological or physical effects of these procedures will be. I believe so.

The concerns are “growing.” Nobody had concerns right away. To test if it helped, we needed to send healthy, young human guineapigs through an experiment.

Transgenderism can be described as a mental disorder. It is a horrible thing to pretend it isn’t, especially for children. These “treatments” are performed by doctors who are not licensed to treat minors.

We’ve probably reached the peak of “minor gender-affirming healthcare”. You know things are at a tipping point when the NYT pushes back.

It would be a good start if it wasn’t called “gender affirming treatment”. It doesn’t affirm their gender. It alters it.

It is a crime and should be punished, except in very rare instances where there is a gender confusion.This is evidence of how insane our culture has become.

Pianoman @11:04 “…When The New York Times is pushing back …”. Yes. Yes. But it is not pushback that aims to stop or reverse evil. I think it is mainly CYA so that the NYT can later claim it wasn’t aiding and abetting evil, not 100% loudly anyway. Perhaps this is also the purpose of battlespace preparation: The NYT can see a tsunami of public horror, revulsion, so it wants to frame the fight on the most favorable terms.Pass the popcorn.
A few people are making a lot of money from the trans fad at great expense to troubled children. Liberals, in general, and the Democratic Party, and the New York Times, in particular, have been their enablers. As I said, a reckoning is coming sooner than expected.
