ast: Glenn Ellmers talks about “Hard Truths & Radical Possibilities” // Steven Hayward
Glenn Ellmers has done it yet again with a provocative assertion that “the constitutional republic” created by our founders is no longer in existence. His article, ” Hard truths and Radical Possibilities” posted at American Greatness, supports this startling proposition with five very clear supporting arguments. They begin with the fact that elections are no longer sufficient to control our government (even though they are fair and above reproach). Elections are now a minor inconvenience, barely a speed bump for the administrative state determined to rule us regardless the opinions of the American people. We are in a crisis and neither “normal politics” nor political competence are sufficient to solve it.
The current woke oligarchy seems to be growing stronger, despite becoming more fanatical each month. This is partly because the elites have maintained some institutional normalcy. The ruling class continues to perform a kind of constitutional theater, regardless of how extreme its policies are–COVID lockdowns and chemical or surgical castrations of children, open borders, etc. The citizens (or “people”) vote, Congress meets to pass “laws”, the president pontificates, and signs documents. It’s largely a show; it doesn’t look like the government that the founders intended. It is close enough to the real deal to convince many people that the situation, even if it is not perfect, can be tolerated. The veneer of Our Democracy is enough to stop most citizens from acting upon their dissatisfactions or justified fears.
Lucretia and Steve join forces in a walk through Glenn’s arguments. Is this really a moment of great change? There is a lot to think about.
I used “Don’t misunderstand Me” from Rossington Collins Band’s 1980s for the thematic exit music.
Listen here or get out your smoking material, and then wander over to Ricochet.
