The official Twitter acquisition of Elon Musk has caused a flurry of panic in the leftist media.
Suzanne Nossel, CEO at PEN America, a group that defends writers’ freedom of expression in the U.S., and globally, wrote an op ed for The Los Angeles Times in which she claimed that Musk’s plans for free speech on Twitter could – get that – “threaten free expression.”
Ironically, Nossell is the head of an organization that supports freedom of expression. Unless you are expressing views that she disagrees with. Your speech is a threat against democracy
Left-wing media didn’t just complain about the threat Musk’s Twitter deal could pose for free speech. Techdirt writer Mike Masnick claimed that speech was more free before Musk’s takeover.
Masnick was saddened by Musk’s firing Vijaya Gadde as Twitter’s legal executive. Gadde played a crucial role in the January 2021 ban on Twitter of former President Donald Trump. Masnick tweeted, “Twitter has less freedom of speech without her.”
Masnick needs to be reassessed. Twitter was a leader in censoring conservatives via social media under its previous leadership. Twitter suspended accounts, deleted tweets, and restricted users who violated its rules in any way.

We can’t afford to back down. We must continue to demand that Big Tech companies, including Twitter, adhere to the First Amendment while maintaining transparency, clarity, and equality for conservatives.
