Big Tech companies and their employees donated heavily to leftist candidates during this election cycle. On average, 89.6 per cent of federal campaign contributions were sent by firms and their employees to Democrats.
According to OpenSecrets, Twitter, Apple and PayPal contributed significantly to Democrats during the run-up to 2022 midterms.
According to OpenSecrets data, Twitter employees contributed the most to Democrats’ overall political contributions. 99.8% of Twitter employees made political contributions to Democrat candidates in the 2022 election cycle. Only 0.2 percent of company employees’ total political contributions to these races went to Republicans.
This cycle, Democrats received a generous donation from Twitter, Apple and PayPal as well as Google parent company Alphabet (Facebook and Instagram), and Meta (Facebook and WhatsApp). The total amount was $5,662,211. The multi-million-dollar sum of all five platforms reviewed by MRC Free Speech America was split between individual contributions and PAC money.
A MRC Free Speech America report dated October 2020 showed that Facebook, Twitter and other social media platforms contributed over 90 percent to Democrats during the previous election cycle.
Google’s parent company Alphabet also manipulated search results in favor for Democrats during the 2022 election cycle. Alphabet contributed 83.43% of its overall political contributions to Democrats by giving a total of $3,420,862 combined to them during the 2022 cycle. OpenSecrets shows that Alphabet contributed $679,652 (16.57% of total contributions) to Republicans.
Twitter employees contributed $127,729 in total to Democrats and $250 to Republicans in federal elections in 2022. In 2020, Democrats received 98.99% of the contributions from Twitter employees. However, this election cycle saw that percentage exceed. The company gave $347,270 more to Democrats in total than it did two years ago.
According to OpenSecrets, Apple employees contributed 92.55% ($1,220.626) of their total 2022 political contributions to Democrats and only 7.45 percent ($98.239) to Republicans. In an apparent attempt to silence conservative voices, the company removed Parler from its App Store after the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol riot. The company also removed Ye’s “Essentials” playlist from iTunes last month.
A PayPal spokesperson stated to MRC Free Speech America, “PayPal has suspended any PAC contributions since 2020.” However, OpenSecrets data indicates that the company contributed $2,000 to PACs during the 2022 cycle.
OpenSecrets shows that PayPal and its employees provided 92.11% ($73,274) to Democrat candidates during the 2022 cycle, while Republicans received 7.89% ($6,274). PayPal has recently issued a totalitarian plan to punish users who “promote misinformation” with a maximum of $2,500, but it was later reversed.
Alphabet’s percentage of campaign contributions to Democrats was close to Meta’s. OpenSecrets data show that the Facebook parent company donated 79.96% to Democrats ($819,720) while a mere 20.04% ($205,485) went to Republicans.
Facebook has a history catering to leftist demands. Perhaps the most shocking was the fact that Facebook censored New York Post reporting about the Hunter Biden laptop scam in the lead up to the 2020 election. This was after an FBI tip about alleged “Russian propaganda,” according to Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of the company.
The Media Research Center found that this censorship helped Big Media & Big Tech win the 2020 election for President Joe Biden.
