Leftist NY Times Slams Twitter Election Censorship

Biased much? The New York Times attacked Twitter and Elon Musk, its new owner, for not being censorious enough during the 2022 midterm elections.

The New York Times published an article entitled “Elon Musk’s Twitter Didn’t Perform at its Best on Election Day.” It stated that “False narratives about the midterm elections proliferated” on the platform. The article attempted to cover the irregularities and malfunctions in voting that occurred in Arizona’s Maricopa County during Election Day.

The main source The Times cited is the Election Integrity Partnership. This partnership was with the federal government to censor the lead up to 2020 elections. Members have received millions in grants from Biden’s administration. The Times didn’t mention that the one “rumor” EIP was later confirmed by Maricopa County election officials.

The Times described the “Maricopa misinformation contagion” on Twitter as melodramatically by The Times. It was “fueled by podcasts and right-wing publications, fringe platforms, and increasingly aggressive calls to protests, recalls, and arrests.”

The outlet regretted that Musk’s Twitter allowed free speech in the election, instead of being subject to censorship calls by “misinformation researchers”, such as Yosef Getachew, leftist Common Cause.

Kari Lake, Arizona Republican gubernatorial hopeful, warned on Twitter that people could leave for another polling place to prevent their votes being counted. This was something The Times claimed election officials “debunked.”

The Times stated that Twitter’s content showed “a significant rightward shift” on Election Day. It is quite telling that The Times views a “rightward shifting” as a problem.

According to The Times, all this “misinformation” is being propagated because Elon Musk has allowed too much free speech and cut too many staff. The outlet reported that Twitter had only cut its pro-censorship Trust and Safety team of 15% and quoted Yoel Roth, the head of the team, boasting about suppressing “harmful behavior” on Twitter.

The Times is not the only leftist outlet calling for more censorship of Twitter during the election. Axios also wrote a Nov. 8 piece, slamming Twitter for supposedly allowing more election related “disinformation” than YouTube and Facebook.
