Lemon Desperately Attempts to Argue Oprah Endorsing Fetterman Matters

Oprah Winfrey supporting John Fetterman in Pennsylvania’s Senate Race. Don Lemon, co-host, desperately tried to suggest it all.

Lemon started things off by calling Lemon “Oprah Winfrey Oprah,” snubbing the man who made her a household name. John Fetterman is endorsed over Dr. Mehmet O in Pennsylvania’s tight Senate race.”

Lemon continued to promote the Oprah-Fetterman endorsement, “Let’s begin now, Jessica Dean live in Montgomery County, just outside Philadelphia.” Good morning. It’s funny because Oprah made Dr. Oz famous, but now she supports John Fetterman, his opponent. Do you think it will swing any votes?

Dean suggested that it might, in defiance of Betteridge’s law of headlines

Although it is rare for a celebrity endorsement to really make a difference, this race is extremely close and everyone wants to get an edge on the other side. John Fetterman was delighted to endorse the Fetterman campaign.

As you said, there is a personal connection. Oprah made Dr. Oz a household-name by supporting his television show and having her on his television program. It is therefore significant that Oprah would support Fetterman.

Dean tried to emphasize the importance of the news again after playing a short audio clip of Oprah’s response. This isn’t another example of a Democrat endorsing a Democrat. “And worth noting as much, Oprah has weighed-in and endorsed other Democratic candidates, but again, not the real personal connection that exists here. This is what makes this truly unique.

Lemon reported that Cheri Beasley from North Carolina, was going to be on the show later than Dean’s report. Oprah’s language impressed him as well. “I would have voted for John Fetterman if I lived in Pennsylvania.

Lemon was shocked when Frank Luntz explained to him that Betteridge was inflexible because she is a self-made woman who made Dr. Oz a celebrity.

Lemon asked Beasley about her interview with Beasley. She replied that Oprah “rocks”, but that she was focusing on North Carolinians.

Liberty Mutual sponsored this segment.

Here’s a transcript from the November 4th show:

CNN This Morning

DON LEMON: But here’s where we start, the headlines from the campaign trail this morning, just days before the midterms. Oprah Winfrey is snubbing the man who made her a household name. John Fetterman is endorsed over Dr. Mehmet O in Pennsylvania’s tight Senate race. It comes as both parties are getting closer to the campaign trail.

President Joe Biden addresses the economy. His predecessor teased another run for the White House.

DONALD TRUMP – To make our country safe, secure, and glorious, I will do it again. Okay. Very likely. That’s all I have to say. Very soon. Get ready. Get ready.

LEMON: Our CNN team is currently on the campaign’s final days. Let’s get started, Jessica Dean, live from Montgomery County, just outside Philadelphia. Good morning. It’s funny because Oprah made Dr. Oz famous, but now she supports John Fetterman. Do you think it will swing any votes?

JESSICA DEAN (English): Good morning, Don. Everyone, happy Friday.

It is significant that she would support Fetterman. Let me hear what she had to share about it.

OPRAH WINDREY: You mentioned Pennsylvania. I must say that I stated in this midterm campaign that it was up to Pennsylvanians to decide. But, I will tell all this: If I lived in Pennsylvania, I would have already voted for John Fetterman because of many reasons.

DEAN: Fetterman stated in a statement that it was an honor to receive this endorsement. And, again, they will take any advantage they can in the campaign. Mehmet Oz’s statement, which he released as part of his campaign, is here. I’ll give you a copy. It stated, “Dr. Oz loves Oprah, and respects their differences in politics. He believes Washington needs more balance and less extremism.

That’s the message, the closing message. We’ve heard it again and again from Oz, who is a moderate and someone who will go to Washington to be bipartisan. Fetterman is trying to portray him as a fraud by saying that he has lived in Pennsylvania and is a person who will stand up for the Pennsylvanian people.

Those are, sort of, the closing messages in the commonwealth.

It is worth noting that Oprah has endorsed Democratic candidates in close races, but not the real personal connection that exists in this case.

POPPY HARLOW is right.

DEAN: This is what makes this so unique.

LEMON: We’ll have one of those on the show a little later, but that, I believe, is– we appreciate that. “I think that Oprah’s statement is quite strong. If I lived in Pennsylvania, I would have already voted for John Fetterman.

HARLOW: She spoke of many reasons.

LEMON: For many purposes.”

KAITLAN COLLINS – A classy response from Mehmet Oz, however, saying that someone who put her, she first placed him on her show, and that was his response.

LEMON: I don’t believe you have an option. You can’t condemn her.

COLLINS: Yeah, you can’t condemn Oprah.

LEMON: No.

HARLOW: This is not a good idea for anyone.
