Morning Joe laughs at the GOP despite not knowing the results

Joe Scarborough and the cast of MSNBC’s Morning Joe spiked football Wednesday, as they opened the show laughing at the GOP’s disappointing results. Scarborough, in particular, exaggerated GOP expectations to be able to compare Kevin McCarthy and Liz Truss, despite not knowing the results.

Mike Brzezinski opened the show in front of a studio audience. He stated, “It’s morning after the election and control over Congress still hangs in balance.” The biggest news overnight: ”

Scarborough interrupted, and Brzezinski, who sarcastically expressed his shock at the fact that he did, began his taunt. “No, but Republicans. I mean, historically, I don’t know if this is true or not, but I follow politics. They’re up going 40-50, 60, 70 seats historically, right? Right, Michael Steele. We talked about this yesterday.”

If Republicans had won 50 seats, it would have made them the largest party since 1928. 60 would have been their largest number since 1920. Although Tuesday’s results were not spectacular, it isn’t the historical counter-trend Scarborough claimed it to be.

Scarborough did not stop with his potentially premature touchdown dance. “Hey Kevin McCarthy – Kevin McCarthy, Meet Liz Truss,” Brzezinski then added “and Liz Cheney.”

Kevin McCarthy has served as the House Minority Leader and Majority Leader for eight consecutive years. Liz Truss led the Conservative Party for 45 consecutive days. She should at least learn Scarborough’s facts and avoid premature celebrations before she tries self-deprecating humor once again.

Liberty Mutual sponsored this segment.

Here’s the transcript of the November 9th show:
