After a staffer opened a piece of mail containing white powder, the Arizona Republican candidate for governor Kari Lake’s Phoenix campaign headquarters were shut down on Sunday.
Liberal media have raised concerns about threats to election workers (Democratic) candidates. However, ABC and CBS spent just 21 seconds on the Republican threat on their flagship Sunday evening newscasts and Monday morning newscasts. This excludes teases.
The total is only marginally better when you add their lowly, overnight newscasts. With the total jumping up to one minute 20 seconds (excluding teases),
ABC’s World News Tonight was on the scene first Sunday, with only 12 seconds from MaryAlice Parks, correspondent: “And just yesterday there was a panic at the headquarters for Arizona gubernatorial hopeful Kari Lake. After an alleged suspicious substance was found in the mail, the FBI, hazmat and bomb squad all called in.
CBS Mornings was the second major network newscast that mentioned the situation. In a tease, Nate Burleson, co-host, said that tensions are rising in Arizona after a suspicious package was found at the Phoenix headquarters for GOP candidate for Governor Kari lake.
Kris Van Cleave spent nine second in the actual newscast on a larger report about tight Senate and gubernatorial races in Grand Canyon State. It also covered how Blake Masters, Lake and Senate GOP candidate, view the 2020 election. Police are investigating. CBS News: The Lake campaign says we can’t be intimidated.”
Both stayed on the case through the middle of the night. ABC’s World News Now received a briefing via Andrea Fujii, co-host.
There are growing concerns about election security as we approach the midterms. Yesterday, a suspicious-looking envelope containing white powder was discovered at the Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari lake’s campaign headquarters.
Fujii added 22 seconds to the total time with another brief interview on America This Morning an hour later. She explained that she found the power in the mail but that the FBI had refuted the campaign’s claim the substance was being tested at Quantico, Virginia.
CBS Morning News host Anne-Marie Green gave a 26-second summary.
Arizona is another battleground, and in a closely contested race to be governor, an investigation has been launched into a suspicious envelope that was sent to the Republican candidate. This was the scene at Kari Lake’s Phoenix campaign headquarters. An official from the campaign said that a staffer opened a suspicious-looking envelope containing a white powder. The staffer is currently under medical supervision. It’s not yet clear what was in the envelope.
Although the powder might prove to be harmless, it is safe to assume that the total newscast time on major networks would exceed 21 seconds for each set of shows if this were to happen to a Democrat.
