Residents of many American states showed how anti-life they are on Election Day, especially Vermont.
VT Digger reported that Vermont voters approved Proposal 5, a constitutional amendment to allow abortion to continue at any point legal. Voters believed that killing babies should be an enshrined right.
Here’s the amend:
“That an individual’s right is to personal reproductive autonomy is central for the liberty and dignity of the liberty and dignity of determining one’s life course, shall not be denied or infringed except when justified by a compelling state interest achieved through the least restrictive means.”
The amendment does not contain any restrictions. It is safe to assume that the law would allow abortions up until the moment of birth.
“The architects of Proposal 5, wanted to codify Vermont’s reproductive rights in Vermont’s Constitution to ensure the strongest state-level protections,” VT Digger wrote.
The state is one of three states, along with California and Michigan, that have passed constitutional amendments to support abortion.
The news was a delight for Democrats lawmakers, with the VT Digger reporting that they “roared and howled” when they heard the victory of the anti-life amendment.
“So many of your actions were courageous and you knocked on doors, went to rallies, contributed, talked to neighbors, and made sure people weren’t misled by the absurd falsehoods that we heard. Anne Lezak, Chairwoman of the Vermont Democratic Party, exclaimed, “And this just makes me very proud of all you.”
Numerous pro-death groups also praised the news.

Vermont already had laws that legalized abortion. However, codifying the unrestricted right at the state constitution level – a response by the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade last year – takes it up a notch.
Katie Yoder, Catholic News Agency’s spokesperson, pointed out one excerpt from the bulletin waring of the state dioceses. It stated that the amendment “promises to enshrine unlimited and unregulated abortion throughout the nine months of pregnancy in the state’s founding documents’ and “would permanently block any attempt at protecting the unborn — even the ones who can survive outside their womb.”
This is the horrifying reality of abortion in Vermont. We can only pray for now.
