The rantings of a George Soros-funded group that denigrated free speech on social networks was aired on one of the most popular news programs in the country just two days before Election Day.
CBS’s 60 Minutes devoted at least 522 seconds of its Nov. 6 broadcast to the fear-mongering by Tristan Harris (CHT co-founder), two days before the Nov.8 midterm elections.
Bill Whitaker, CBS correspondent, declared that social media was a display of our anger. “An analysis done by The New York Times in the fall revealed that online use “civil war”, has exploded.” Whitaker didn’t mention the fact that liberal media has been fueling the fires by popularizing the term “civil war” to denigrate the right in Americans’ daily news feeds. Whitaker elevated Harris, claiming that his organization was the voice for reason and slamming social networks for “generating billions through making us angry.”
Harris lamented about how “the more moral[ly] outlandish language you use — and the more indignuous language, contemptuous language you use, the more you use — it will get shared more.” We are being rewarded for being division entrepreneurs.
Harris should speak for himself because he was rewarded handsomely for his work as a “division Entrepreneur [].””. Harris’s group was funded by the Soros Foundation to Promote Open Society with a $1 Million grant in 2020. CBS conveniently did not disclose this funding. Soros-funded groups, which were financed to the tune at least $80.233,084, have been putting pressure on Big Tech to censor “disinformation” about elections before the 2022 midterms. CHT targets “disinformation” that affects “elections” as a “key issue.”
CBS agreed with Harris’ leftist ideallism that Silicon Valley tech giants should be under greater government control. Harris stated that he believes that stricter government regulation of social networking platforms or at least transparency would be the best way to reform.
Whitaker didn’t mention anything about the ongoing lawsuits by the Louisiana and Missouri state attorneys generals against the Biden government for allegedly conspiring with Big Tech platforms in order to censor American political speech. CBS only mentioned more general investigations into TikTok, Instagram and the alleged physical and mental harms they caused to children — but not censorship.
CHT’s recommendations go beyond government control over Big Tech platforms. Harris’s group advocated for Orwellian solutions to what it considers the “weakening of global democratic functioning” by social media.
These were some of the most disturbing and anti-American suggestions posted on CHT’s site, which CBS ignored.
“Implement media, campaign ‘quiet times’.” CHT pointed out how “France” has an electoral discretionary period during which media outlets are forbidden from sharing campaign-related news for 2 days prior to an election. (So, even if the Hunter Biden laptop bombshell was discovered two days before the 2020 election began, CHT argued that voters shouldn’t have seen it.
“Support banning social media advertising to promote disinformation, violence and extremism.” CHT linked with a proposal by Anna Eshoo, a California Democrat Representative, asking to “strengthen democracy by prohibiting microtargeted politics ads.”
CBS referred millions of viewers to CHT’s site for its program, “Foundations of Humane Technology”, which has a banner link to the more extreme policies listed under the “Key Issues” page.
Whitaker summarized, “Harris believes that real change may need to be forced in courts.” Harris’s group is pushing for more government control over online speech. 60 Minutes would not reveal this to anyone.
Harris also claimed that Big Tech should not be treated the same as Big Tobacco in 1990s when state attorneys general sued it for “harms of people and their families”.
CHT’s “harms” are subjective. CHT explicitly defended the Marxist extremist Black Lives Matter movement in its “Ledger of Harms” by citing critical Facebook posts under the heading “Systemic Oppression.”
According to CrowdTangle research, 70% of the most popular Facebook posts about Black Lives Matter were critical of the movement. This despite the fact that the majority Americans support BLM. Fake representations of public opinion can be a significant factor in reducing the momentum for social progress and distorting the basis of democratic dialogue.
CBS also ignored this.
Whitaker promoted Harris’s arguments by pointing out social media reactions to tweets of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), and leftist super-PAC MeidasTouch about the Department of Justice’s publication of photos of documents uncovered during the FBI raid on the former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home in Fla. Greene tweeted that Rep. Eric Swalwell (D–CA) was “dumbasses” for sharing photos of documents that were allegedly classified by the FBI. Meanwhile, MeidasTouch called Trump a “traitor” and Greene had more engagement than Bloomberg News’s straight news tweet. This is supposedly due to their inflammatory language.
Harris asked, “Why is it that the whole world knows more about Marjorie Taylor Greene then they do about all the other hundreds” “It’s because the enraging and inflammatory stuff goes viral.” CBS used Harris’s talking points in order to discredit a Republican candidate. It didn’t mention any Democratic candidates who used inflammatory language on social media during the segment. Greene is also on the ballot today to reelect her Democratic opponent Marcus Flowers.
