Whoopi quits Twitter: “All Speech Isn’t Free Speech” ‘I’m Out!

Whoopi Goldberg, who announced Monday’s edition on The View that she was quitting Twitter because it “is a mess” under Elon Musk’s new ownership, despite there being no changes to Twitter’s terms of service (TOS). She also condemned free speech, shouting “all speech isn’t free speech” and “I am out”. Meanwhile, her co-hosts demanded a federal crackdown as well as European-style intrusions.

“So, it’s been a little more than a week since Elon Trump took over Twitter and that place – it is a mess,” Goldberg declared at the end of the segment. She complained that Musk had allegedly ordered Kathy Griffin, a comedian, to be suspended “for impersonating him in a parody account.” This hashtag has become a trending topic called “Free Kathy”.

An ABC News product is not always truthful. It wasn’t “a joke account.” It was her account, which she changed the name to “Elon Musk”. She was suspended because the TOS stated that a parody accounts must be named as such. So, the TOS was enforced.

“I’m getting out. Whoopi declared, “I’m getting out today because it feels so messy.” “I’m going out. If it settles down and makes me feel more comfortable, I might come back. As of tonight, Twitter is done for me.

Musk was also accused of allegedly going into her blocked accounts list and unblocking them. She said, “And I’m tired now of having certain attitudes blocked and now they are back on.”

Her account appears to be inactive as of the publication of this article. NewsBusters can confirm that Goldberg managed the account for her.

Sunny Hostin, a racist co-host, lamented that Twitter had “become so a hellscape” since Musk took control. She also mourned the benefits it once had like following the “legal scholars and “thought leaders” she admired. She snorted, praising the notion that Twitter was a public space. “Well, I don’t want to be part that public square.”

Ana Navarro, a faux Republican, doubled down on her demand for federal regulators to crackdown on Twitter and social networking companies as well as lionizing Europe (Click “expand”)

NAVARRO, The European Union passed a law that I believe is very relevant. We are way behind the curve. The European Union passed a landmark law that required Facebook, YouTube, YouTube, and all other internet services to combat misinformation, reveal how their services amplify divisive comments, and stop targeting people based on their ethnicity, religion, and sexual orientation.

GOLDBERG : We have been asking this for a long time.

NAVARRO – I don’t understand why, but I think it’s high time the U.S. government looked at this. Just as radio stations are regulated by FCC, so are we. However, Twitter is much more accessible and far more dangerous.

She then lamented about the fact he actually uses his platform. He is causing drama every day. He tweets and tweets and tweets and gets into fights. She shouted, “It’s insane!” as if he was running the servers himself.

Hostin backed Navarro and urged people to vote for Democratic Senate Candidates so that they can undo Section 230 in the Communications Act. “Well, they claim they’re third party platforms. They are not the ones putting it out there, and that can only be changed by legislation. If the Republicans rule the Senate that will never change,” she insists.

As they were about to go to a commercial break Goldberg decried freedom of speech and ridiculed those who were concerned about it. “They keep saying it’s free speech… All speech is not free speech. Some speech is not allowed to be considered free speech. So, everyone has to agree on this,” she sneered before taking on a mocking tone, saying: “But if people continue to say, ‘You’re hurting mine free speech,’ it’s going be a problem.”

“But you know what?” She boasted, “But you know what?

WHOOPI GOLDBERG : It’s been just over a week since Elon Musk took control of Twitter and the place. It’s a mess. Some of the workers he fired just a few days back have been called back by Musk. He has put his $8 charge for verification of blue checks on hold. It was originally going to be $20. It’s now going to be $8. He also suspended Kathy Griffin from a parody account for impersonating him. This has led to a trending Kathy hashtag.

I’m getting out. I feel so messy and I’m getting out of here today. I’m tired of having certain attitudes blocked and now they are back on. I just — I’m going out. If it settles down and feels more comfortable, I might return. As of tonight, Twitter is done for me.

[Applause]

SUNNY HOSTIN – I believe that many people feel this way. And Whoopi, you have always told me, since the beginning of the show, not to look at the comments. It also changes what I say because we fear the reaction. I don’t want that to happen.

GOLDBERG: No. It is possible to change.

HOSTIN: It is possible to change.

GOLDBERG: It is possible to change.

HOSTIN: I stopped commenting years ago. But it’s become a hellscape and I’m afraid of the fact that I follow legal scholars there. I follow the SCOTUS blog. I follow thought leaders. It’s a great place to do that. Remember the Arab Spring, and the Iranian women who reached out to you. They reached out to me via Twitter. Please help me. Please keep this message going. We all discussed it during hot topics.

Now, Elon Musk is making it something it wasn’t meant to be. He said that it would be the public square. While I don’t like to be in that public square, you don’t want the information that could be shared there.

GOLDBERG : Here’s the second thing I want to find out. Who controls your Twitter feed? Who owns the content you post on Twitter? They’re getting $8. It’s your $8. See? There are too many questions right here.

ANA NAVARRO – The European Union passed a law that I believe is very relevant.

As for Elon Musk, I don’t get how this guy can manage Twitter while he can’t even get off Twitter. He is causing chaos on a daily basis. He tweets and tweets and tweets and gets into fights. It’s insane.

HOSTIN: This is why the Senate race matters because of the Communications Act, which basically permits this to happen. It’s Section 230, I believe. It protects social media platforms only.

GOLDBERG: Freedom of speech. GOLDBERG: Under freedom of speech.

HOSTIN: They say they are third-party platforms. They are not the ones putting it out there. That can only be changed by legislation. If the Republicans control the Senate, that will never change.

ALYSSA FARAH GRAFFIN: Section 230 can be a bit complicated, however. It’s difficult because if it’s treated like a publication, then they are liable for any crazy things someone posts.

[Crosstalk]

GOLDBERG: Yeah! It is a publication.

[Crosstalk]

GOLDBERG : They keep saying it’s free speech, but some speech isn’t free. All speech is not free speech. Some speech is not allowed to be considered free speech. Everyone must agree on this, but if people continue to say, “You’re hurting me free speech,” [mocking tone], it’s going be a problem.

But you know what? This is going to happen — this is our problem. But it isn’t mine today because I’m out.

We’ll be right there.
