ior of the Republic” in the Slammer // (John Hinderaker).
Remember Michael Avenatti? He was the Democratic Party’s greatest hope at a historic moment. Avenatti was going harpoon the Dems white whale, Donald Trump. This was done through his representation of Stormy Danis, with whom Trump apparently had a fling. To whom he later wrote the check. It was a personal check to pay for a personal expense and it wasn’t from campaign funds. There was no legal problem. True, a presidential candidate would have a tawdry affair. But, I respond with two words: John Kennedy. Two more: Bill Clinton.
Democrats used to refer to Avenatti as the “savior” of the Republic at one time. They also praised him as a presidential candidate. It all came to an end when he was sentenced for robbing Ms. Daniels Trump and for trying to extort Nike money.
But that wasn’t the end of it. Avenatti was sentenced to 14 years more prison time, on top the sentence he is currently serving for stealing money from clients.
Michael Avenatti, a disgraced lawyer, was sentenced Monday to 14 years federal prison for defrauding clients and for obstructing IRS efforts for payroll taxes to be collected from his coffee shop.
He was also ordered by the court to pay $7 million for restitution.
ABC recalls Avenatti’s salad days:
The brash lawyer was a regular on cable news and a frequent subject of magazine articles. Reporters questioned him about his skin care routine and Tom Ford suits, while Daniels and he posed for Annie Leibovitz.
Avenatti briefly tried his hand at the presidential candidacy pool by dining with potential donors, and then forming a political action committee to accept donations.
Avenatti, however, committed the most severe theft:
Avenatti was indicted for stealing millions of dollars from clients following settlements in different cases. Prosecutors claim that the funds did not flow through Avenatti, but instead remained with him.
Geoffrey Johnson, a paraplegic, was one of the clients who claimed he was never paid. In 2015, Johnson was awarded a $4 million settlement by Los Angeles County. Prosecutors claimed that the money was paid to Avenatti, but never given to Johnson.
This is such an inhumane crime, one wonders how Avenatti managed to get away with it. He probably believed that his Democratic Party connections would protect him. The Democrats’ love affair with media stars does not last beyond their useful lives. Cindy Sheehan will confirm this.
Last but not least, here via InstaPundit, is a montage showing the Democrats’ love for Michael Avenatti back in the days when they believed he could do some good for them:
