Mystery of Woke Capitalism // John Hinderaker
What is the reason that almost all of the big business has gone left-wing? There are many theories, but none seem to fully explain this phenomenon. The effect is a part of our everyday life, regardless of the cause. Here are some examples for today.
Many speculated that Disney’s new/old CEO, Bob Iger would be resigning from his extreme leftism. He explained yesterday the obligation of corporations to oppose constitutional guns rights:
Iger stated, “As a grandfather and father, as CEO of The Walt Disney Company,” that there is no greater task than ensuring safety and well-being for our children.
Iger was not talking about protecting children from sex-change operations and gay grooming.
He said, “Those of you who are in positions to influence laws, shape culture, or support organizations on the frontlines, I believe we have an additional responsibility.”
The key phrase is “shaping cultural.” I don’t think Disney has done enough to influence our culture in the past. The company has come a long distance since Davy Crockett and it is not in a positive direction.
Case number two: American Girl doll company. Several of my daughters owned American Girl dolls and were avid readers of the accompanying American Girl books. The company knew its target audience in those days: girls. These days, not so much.
American Girl is under fire for publishing a book that encourages transgenderism among young girls.
American Girl, the company that is known for making dolls that young girls adore for generations, published A Smart Girl’s Guide: Body Images in paperback in February. Its contents have caused anger among parents.
Mel Hammond, the author of the book, writes on page 38 that prepubescent readers may be offered “medicine” by their doctors to stop puberty …..
“If you haven’t yet gone through puberty, the doctor might offer medicine that will delay your body’s changes, giving your more time to think about gender identity.” An excerpt from the page is ….
Yes, you can take drugs if you’re nine years old. This will allow you to think more about your gender identity.
Next, the big law firms. I am so old that I can recall when the bar was one the pillars the Republican Party. Abraham Lincoln was the patron saint for lawyers. However, conservatives in big law firms are now endangered. If you take out the onion layers of Democratic Party, the innermost layer is made up of women lawyers. Young, single women lawyers are especially common. Thus:
Yesterday’s Wall Street Journal opinion piece was written by Robin Keller. It describes how she lost her job as a lawyer after speaking out in support of the Dobbs decision. This did not take place at a general staff meeting, but rather on a conference call that was specifically held to allow staff to discuss the decision.
This was Hogan Lovells, the largest law firm in the world. The now-fired lawyer explained why:
I offered a different perspective. I noticed that many commentators and jurists believed Roe was wrongly decided. I stated that the court was correct to remand this issue to the states. I also said that I believed the abortion-rights advocates had brought a lot of the criticism against Roe upon themselves by pushing for extreme policies. I referred to numerous reports that the black community has experienced disproportionately high abortion rates, which some call a form genocide. I stated that I believed this was tragic.
Her law firm was fired after she became outraged by leftists. This is insane! A lawyer agreed to a United States Supreme Court ruling that is now the law of all. Yet, at one the largest law firms in the world, it is a firing offense to agree with the U.S. Supreme Court. Today, law firms are more interested than serving their clients in advancing far-left causes.
Are corporate news stories all bad? Yes. Let’s not forget to mention that there is a ray for hope and a little bit of pushback. Kroger Corporation is awake like all the rest, but it also wants a merger with Albertsons. This has raised antitrust concerns. RedState has more:
Democrats want to stop this merger because they’re anti-business. Guess who Kroger CEO called for help? Republicans have been long the suck for major corporations.
Kroger is awake, as they have promoted “diversity, inclusion” training and forced employees to “allyship” while forcing employees to wear gay pride logos. This move eventually cost Kroger a lot after employees were wrongly fired. Kroger is a company that ridicules conservative values and demands that Republicans give them tax breaks.
So Tom Cotton told Kroger, at a Senate Judiciary Committee Hearing, that they are on their own.
“I’m sorry this is happening to you. Best of luck.”

Whatever the root causes, woke capitalism is rampant at the least in part due to the fact that all the pressure comes from one side: The far Left. Kudos Senator Cotton and Governor Ron DeSantis who refuse to be taken for a fool by woke big business.
