Lately, I have been saying that things are going to get worse before getting worse. Today the stars aligned to bring us some cheering news.
* Today’s strike by 1,000 New York Times employees will begin, which can only improve product. Nicole Hannah-Jones is one of the striking employees. She is the impresario of 1619 Project. But how can you tell? She hasn’t written an article in the Times in more than two years. I’ve heard of “sit down” strikes and “quiet quitting” before but this seems like a new concept. So what will the Times do if she “returns to work” tomorrow?
* Leftists have been arguing for a while about whether the “climate crises” means they shouldn’t have kids, since more people are bad for our planet, and “what kinda world would we be bringing children into?”. This is a recent story from the Bezos Bulletin.
This question was asked during the Cold War and “arms race” – i.e. how can you imagine having children when there are so few nuclear bombs around? Now, I support liberals not reproducing; it will make our job much easier in the future. The good news is that the good news is growing.
A Huge Wave Of Liberal Men Are Getting Vasectomies To Protest the Overturning of Roe
Since the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health, a large Planned Parenthood affiliate performed more sterilizations of men this fall.
Dr. Grace Shih, director for vasectomy services at Planned Parenthood Great Northwest, said to KIRO 7 News that there has been a 34 percent increase in their rates since June’s abortion ruling, according Fox News. Shih stated that one man told her he believed that having a vasectomy was a “act of love.” . .
It is unclear why these men choose not to have children.
It is obvious to me that these “men” don’t want to have children, and I believe we should support this leftist impulse.
* The entire ESG (“Environment, Social & Governance”) investment fad, as I explained elsewhere , which, like the old leftist attempt at suborn capitalism, has already shown signs of hitting the wall.
Vanguard Quits the Net-Zero Group; This is the Biggest Defection Yet
Vanguard Group Inc. has resigned from the largest climate-finance coalition in the world. This is the largest defection of the coalition to date, as the US Republicans intensify their threats against companies that are hostile to the fossil-fuel industry.
According to a statement Wednesday, Vanguard’s decision was made after a “considerable period for review”. The firm stated that withdrawing from Net Zero Asset Managers initiative (which is a sub-unit under the Glasgow Financial Alliance to Net Zero), “will help provide clarity for our investors” about everything, from the role and financial risks of climate change to the role of index funds.
Meanwhile:
Furious as a new coalmine in Cumbria approved
Despite Labour and environmental activists calling for it to be rejected, Michael Gove approved the first deep-coalmine in 30 years.
After two years of opposition, the levelling-up secretary has granted planning approval for the Cumbria mine. Critics claimed that it would increase carbon emissions and that 85 percent of the coking coal would go overseas to make steel.
More good news from Germany. This story was not reported by Robert Bryce, my friend. But it’s still good news.
Germany Re-Opens Five Lignite Fired Power Plants
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced the reopening of five power plants in Germany that burn lignite, a low rank coal. Germany’s return back to lignite is yet another example of the Iron Law of Electricity. This law states that people, businesses and governments will do whatever it takes to get the electricity they require.
Germany’s return to lignite is full of contradictions. One of them belongs in the “you cannot make this up” column.
The Iron Law of Electricity has become so powerful that RWE , the utility, is dismantling Keyenberg’s wind project in western Germany to make way for the Garzweiler mine expansion. The Neurath-C power plant is being powered by Lignite from Garzweiler. RWE spokesperson told the Guardian newspaper, “We recognize this comes across as paradoxical.”
* And finally, for this morning anyway, another bit of cheery information (from M and other Jones no more!) This will make the day darker for every environmental doomster.
Scientists Say This Wheat Can withstand Extreme Heat and Drought
A new, drought-tolerant durum wheat variety has been developed as part of an international breeding program. This program aims to increase climate resilience and food diversity by increasing crop diversity. . .
