Schadenfreude // (John Hinderaker)
This is a little late, so skip it if I have already shown the video of Washington Post staffers protesting layoffs .
The Washington Post’s all hands meeting became chaotic Wednesday after the publisher of the newspaper announced imminent layoffs. Then, he left the room while concerned employees shouted their concerns.
Fred Ryan, the publisher of the Jeff Bezos-owned broadsheet, announced that there will be a round of layoffs in the first quarter 2023. This was to be announced during an hour-long meeting.
According to a newspaper account, Ryan blamed the cuts for worsening economic conditions.
Video from the meeting was shared by Annie Gowen, Washington Post national correspondent Annie Gowen. It showed depressed employees asking Ryan questions about the job cuts.
Ryan stated, speaking to a crowd of frustrated employees, “We’re certainly not going to make the town hall into an grievance session.”
Heh. It could not have happened to a more deserving group of leftists. It is quite entertaining when left-wing institution bosses are forced by financial realities into revealing their true views on labor. Here’s the video:
The problem is that almost all American newspapers don’t have a viable path to profitability. It is their fault as at least half of the country would love to see them go bankrupt. Old-fashioned people like myself wish they lived in a world where a good newspaper, not one like the Washington Post, could actually make money and remain in business.
UPDATE: An update-notice how many WaPo employees wear masks in the office. Sad! Wearing a mask is its punishment. While the rest of the world has moved on and leftists are stuck in a time warp, they still have to wear a mask.
