ast: Sci-Fi-Palooza–Star Trek vs. “Woke Trek” // (Steven Hayward)

John Yoo is a complete science fiction geek! I will have to go back to his law review article footnotes and search for references to Sci-Fi classics. He is, it turns out.

Ken Green channeling Jayne Cobb.

Last year, I hosted a podcast about science fiction with Ken Green, my old AEI writing partner. He even wore his Jayne Cobb cap to the episode! John Yoo immediately requested an injunction from the Supreme Court of Podcast Appeals. Today, we did the remedy: a podcast where we discussed the most fundamental SciFi questions: Star Trek versus Star Wars (we unanimously agreed on this verdict); Star Trek The Original Series versus all of the sequels that Ken lumps together under the heading “Woke Trek.” But, wait! Although it had a new wokeness, the original series was still more sophisticated than anything else. How can you tell the difference? I believe that Captain Kirk was a true statesman and Piccard was a UN bureaucrat.

We offer observations on science fiction. However, we also have an interesting spectrum of opinions about Firefly, Alien franchise, and Dr. Who, The Expanse and other science fiction from recent decades including some really obscure programming like Blake 7.

So get out your best Romulan ale and send us your suggestions!
