ast: PLU Lesson One – The Federalist, Nos 1-9 // (Steven Hayward).

Yesterday was the first “classroom” held by PLU (Power Line University). 110 people tuned in live to our first formal session on Federalist Papers. There were some technical issues, including the Chat window not working correctly. We also had some problems admitting live questions and comments. However, we hope to get these resolved for next week’s session. For those who couldn’t make it live, we have the podcast version.

The session started slowly. We looked at numbers 1-9 of the Federalist Papers. We are delaying the inclusion of the Federalist 10, which we had originally planned to include in our first session. The first papers examine in detail the argument against the disunity and division of the infant country if the Constitution is not ratified and the United States is split into three to four regional confederacies. This is similar to the talk that we hear about a second civil conflict or a breakup of the red and blue states. The point is that the Federalist’s themes and analysis are still highly relevant today.

Things get really wild with Hamilton’s high-spirited Federalist 9. We had to stop for the day.

Our youngest participant, Theodore Ian.

We’re proud to announce that the podcast series’ tag line is “Never allow college to get in the way” and that our live audience was a diverse age group, beginning with Theodore Ian, a four-month-old who is clearly fascinated by our dazzling commentary. This is proof that it’s never too late to start the right principlesTM education for your children.

We shared some slides and aloud most passages. However, not all of the sessions were recorded. You can view the session on YouTube . We will also try to share the Power Point slide decks through these podcast links.

Keep checking for announcements regarding the schedule for future PLU seminars. These will likely be in the middle of next week.

So listen here or slip into the lecture hall at Ricochet.
