ering on nullity // Scott Johnson
President Biden made it known early yesterday morning that he would be visiting El Paso on Sunday. This visit is noteworthy for two reasons. It’s rare that Biden is not on vacation for this weekend. So far, he has spent 40% of his term in office on vacation. The guy is 80 years old and needs his r&r.
Second, “El Paso” was translated as “the border”. Biden will be visiting the border for the first time in his political career. This could only mean one thing. Biden is about to announce his candidacy in the second term of office.
This raises the question of whether he is fit to serve a second term. Insofar that he isn’t fit for his current term, we can definitively answer “No” to that question. His faculties are also declining. He isn’t getting any shaper as he gets older.
Biden undid almost everything President Trump did to secure control of our border on his first day as president. He made it clear during his campaign for the Democratic nomination that he would open our border. And he has kept his promise.
Biden has dismantled our southern border. The official statistics show that there were 4,000,000 illegal crossings between fiscal years 2021-2022. The record for illegal crossings in fiscal years 2021 and 2022 was set by the first of those two years. It was broken by the second. Since Biden’s election, nearly 5,000,000 illegal aliens have entered America.
Alejandro Mayorkas, Secretary of Homeland Security, has repeatedly assured us that our border is secure. He is the Baghdad Bob for the Biden administration. He should be taken out of town by rail, but it is important to note that he has faithfully implemented administration policy.
Biden continued to speak to El Paso after his weekend trip with a late-morning speech in which he claimed that he will do something about illegal immigration. The White House has posted the transcript of his remarks. is the AP account of his remarks.
Biden, as usual, stood in front of a teleprompter at Roosevelt Room and struggled with the text scrolling before him. Biden began his remarks by blaming Republicans and claiming Mayorkas had declared that the crisis was not real. Biden stated that “one significant step” was being taken. He said: “Over the summer we saw a huge surge in the number Venezuelans traveling through Mexico and trying to enter the United States. They did not have to go through our legal processes. They resented and we responded by ensuring that there are two legal and safe ways for someone to leave the country to enter America. That was one of the reasons that you — you were proposing.” I wasn’t clear on the meaning.
He then described the government’s response to the flooding of Venezuelans.
They are eligible to use the CBP One app on their phone if they are seeking asylum.
Second, we collaborated with the Mexican government in October to launch a new parole programme. Another program, known as the “parole programme”, is also available. It was launched in October and has already shown results in reducing illegal border crossings. This parole program works in a similar way: You must have a legal sponsor here in the United States that will sponsor you to get here.
The person must then go through thorough background checks, apply from outside the United States, and not cross the border illegally.
If they apply and get approved, they can use the CBP One app to present at a port-of-entry and be allowed to work legally in the United States for two years. That’s it.
If their application is denied, or they attempt to enter the United States illegally, they will be sent back to Mexico and will not qualify for this program.
Biden’s plan is to “stiffen enforcement”, as he described it. He wants to extend the program to people seeking emigration from Nicaragua and Cuba. “We expect this action to significantly reduce the number of people trying — attempting to cross our Southwest border without going through an legal process.”
And that’s not all. “In fact, I’m announcing today that Mexico has agreed that it will allow up to re — to return up 30,000 persons per months who try, get captured, and get sent home from those four countries that are apprehended while illegally crossing the border — the southwest frontier.”
For some reason, 30,000 seems to be the magic number. Biden’s plan states that the United States will allow 30,000 immigrants from the four countries per month for two years. They will also offer legal work to those who meet the conditions. My calculations show that this will increase legal immigration by 360,000 annually. Even the AP story pauses at this “huge number”.
Biden’s plan is not supported by anyone in the world immigration enforcement. Is it likely to reduce illegal immigration rather than exacerbate the problem?
This is absurd:
People would prefer to stay in the country where they live if they could feed their families, be safe, send their children to school, and have opportunities.
It’s not like people – you’ve heard it before: It’s no like people sitting around a table in — somewhere in Central America and saying “I have a great idea.” Let’s all sell what we have. Let’s give it all to a coyote or a smuggler. They’ll take you on a difficult journey for thousands of miles to reach the United States. Then, we’ll illegally cross the border. They’ll drop us in the middle of a desert. We’re in a place that doesn’t speak the language. It will be fun, won’t it?
As he continued, he corrected his reference to “President Harris”.
This effort was led by [Vice President Harris] — to make things better for the people they are leaving. Her leadership has allowed her to generate more than $3.2B from the private sector to create opportunities and jobs in El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala. This will allow people to stay in their home countries, where they are safer and have more opportunities.
Contrary to the reference to “President Harris”, the White House has left this uncorrected in its transcript: “[S]ince august of last year Customs and Border Patrol had seized more than 22,000 pounds of deadly Fentanyl. This is enough to kill – kill as many as 1000 people in this country. Twenty thousand pounds of Fentanyl. It’s a deadly drug. It’s a flat-killer.” It is a killer when you don’t know what your talking about.
I should also mention that Biden’s “plan,” as it was called by advocates of illegal immigration, was decried by those who oppose it. However, it seems highly likely that it will exacerbate the crisis it claims to address. There is no “fix” or app that can fix this problem.
