Perhaps one should say that utility-scale solar energy is ineffective. In northern climates like mine, solar panels produce electricity about 18% of all the time. This is not a lot electricity, any electric power. They are inert for the vast majority of the time.
It’s not that solar panels don’t work at night. Duke Energy reminded customers after a series of blackouts. Solar panels in the North also stop working when it snows. It does, quite often. Sometimes, it happens on days when you need to turn on the lights, operate an appliance, or watch television.
This is a typical example: A vast sea of solar panel arrays, totally worthless due to the snow covering.

Most telling is the fact that no one bothers shoveling snow. Do you shovel your driveway? Yes. However, utilities don’t shovel snow off solar panels. One utility executive recently admitted that this is because they produce so little electricity, and it is not economically cost-effective to pay for them. This is the ultimate proof that utility-scale solar power is a waste of money.
