A 57-year old Thai woman was forced to have her leg amputated when she became trapped under a moving walkway in Bangkok’s Don Mueang Airport.
Supannee kittirattana, a woman from Bangkok, was boarding a flight for the southern city of Nakhon si Thammarat on Thursday morning around 8:27 am local time when her leg got stuck in the moving walkway.
Medical personnel rushed to the scene to transfer her to a hospital in the area. She was then transferred to another hospital to undergo surgery. Her leg had to be amputated at the knee.

According to the airport director the walkways are in use since 1996 and undergo routine maintenance checks.
Airports of Thailand, the state-owned company that operates all airports in the country, released a statement regarding the incident. It announced that it would pay for Kittirattana’s medical bills and that all moving walkways at its airports will be temporarily closed to conduct safety inspections.
The son of the woman whose leg was amputated, Krit kittirattana said that his family was “most worried about [Supannee]’s mental state.”
“This crisis is very difficult for our family,” said Krit. “We are still saddened and shocked every time we hear the news about our mother’s condition. But we must fight because she is fighting.”
In July 2019, Dhanapat Koomsalud reported a similar event at Don Mueang. One of his shoes was sucked up into the moving walkway.
The passenger wrote on Facebook that the shoe was immediately sucked in. “I was shocked and when I looked I could see that my safety comb had broken. That was the reason that my shoe got sucked into the walkway.”
Koomsalud from Kittirattana said, “I would like to express my condolences for the victim.” “I hope that there won’t be any more accidents like this.”
