 Fort A. P. Hill in Virginia has been renamed Fort Walker by the U. S. Army, making it the second facility to bear only a woman’s name. Officials renamed the base in honor of Dr. Mary E. Walker during a ceremony on Friday. Walker was renowned throughout the Civil War for attending field hospitals to treat injured Union soldiers. Fort A. P. Hill in Virginia has been renamed Fort Walker by the U.S. Army, making it the second facility to bear a woman’s sole name. Officials renamed the base in honor of Dr. Mary E.
