Merrick Garland Says GOP Allegations About Hunter Biden Case Have No Basis In Reality

The U.S. Attorney General faced Republican accusations that Justice Department had been lenient with the president’s child.

The nation’s top law enforcement official declared on Wednesday that Democrat claims of a two-tiered justice system favoring the presidential son are untrue. Republicans claimed that U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland’s Department of Justice had taken it simple on Hunter Biden while turning the tables on former President Donald Trump during a House Judiciary Committee hearing. Texas Democrat Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee questioned whether the rhetoric surrounding the Hunter Biden case had” any basis in reality.” Garland retorted,” No, it doesn’t. It was a more immediate response than Garland provided to many Republican inquiries about the investigation, which this month resulted in the grand jury indictment against the president’s son for possessing an illegal firearm and could result in additional charges. Despite Hunter Biden’s constitutional danger, Jim Jordan, chair of the Judiciary Committee in Ohio, announced on Wednesday that” the fix is in” at the Justice Department. He claimed that top brass had interfered with an IRS investigation into Hunter Biden’s taxes and that another officials had stymied Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss’ efforts to bring the case. Mike Johnson, a representative( R – La. claimed that the Justice Department is not trusted by the British public. At the hearing, he stated,” They observe the DOJ violently prosecuting Mr. Trump, President Biden’s political rival, while also witnessing slow-moving and special treatment of the presidents’ son.” Advertising &# 13,
Garland emphasized that he wasn’t interfering in Hunter Biden’s case, pointing out time and time again that Weiss was given the task of conducting the investigation while the Trump administration was in office. Hunter Biden and Weiss immediately came to a plea deal, but the deal fell through in August due to legal disputes over the extent of his immunity from further prosecution. Weiss was finally given special counsel status at Garland’s request. Republicans cited testimony from two IRS whistleblowers who claimed that Justice Department officials had obstructed their efforts to pursue the case, for as by disapproving specific search warrants and by warning the Secret Service that Hunter Biden would be approached for an interview. New testimony from FBI whistleblowers has questioned some of their assertions. Republicans criticized Garland for certainly getting more involved in the case while implying that there were efforts to protect the Biden family. For instance, Rep. Dan Bishop( R – N. C. ), citing a complaint from the IRS whistleblowers, asked Garland if he was aware that prosecutors had not filed specific tax charges against Hunter Biden before it was too late under federal law to do so. Garland claimed that Weiss was in charge of legal decisions. Garland once remarked,” I have purposefully avoided getting involved in the facts of the case, not because I’m trying to absolve myself of responsibility, but rather as I am attempting to pursue my responsibility.” # 13 of the advertisement
Republicans didn’t understand the message. Garland was asked by Rep. Matt Gaetz( R – Fla.) if he was aware of any cash transfers related to Hunter Biden’s business, to which the latter responded that a person was unaware. Gaetz remarked,” It’s like you’re looking the other way on purpose.” relatingU. Hunter Bidenmerrick Garland, a member of the House of Representatives, was related. Justice Department of the S. At a House Judiciary Committee hearing with U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland, Republican lawmakers accused the Department of Justice of displaying preferential treatment towards Hunter Biden by avoiding bringing criminal charges against him while they heavily prosecuted former President Donald Trump. Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) stated that Trump was “forced to endure the only criminal investigation of a sitting president in the history of the United States” whereas Hunter Biden never faced a criminal inquiry. Garland dismissed this claim as a “fantasy”. Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee of Texas inquired if there was any truth to the claims made about Hunter Biden’s case. Garland responded, “No, it is not,” to a series of questions from Republicans regarding the investigation that concluded earlier this month with a grand jury indictment of the president’s son for illicitly owning a gun. There could be greater implications, and Chairman Jim Jordan of the Judiciary Committee announced Wednesday that he believed the Justice Department was being unfairly biased. Jim Jordan of Ohio claims

Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio declared that high-ranking officials meddled with an investigation into Hunter Biden’s taxes conducted by the IRS and that other authorities blocked the efforts of Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss to investigate the case. Congressman Mike Johnson from Louisiana expressed the sentiment that the American people are not confident in the Justice Department. He noted that the public observes the U.S. Department of Justice punishing Mr. Trump, a political adversary of President Biden, harshly, yet leniency is being given to the leader’s offspring. Garland made it known that he had no involvement in Hunter Biden’s situation, mentioning that it was Weiss who was originally responsible for the probe during Trump’s presidency and Biden left him to concluding this. Initially, a plea bargain was struck between Weiss and Biden, but this fell through during August when there was conflict between Biden’s attorneys and the prosecutors regarding the extent of his exoneration from potential future prosecution.
