55 House Democrats Urge White House To Pressure Israel On Palestinian Aid

The group’s letter stated that “Hamas does not represent the Palestinians and the Palestinians do not represent Hamas.”

Numerous House Democrats are urging Israel to take action to protect Israeli civilians trapped and attempting to flee their exceedingly destroyed homes in the north Gaza Strip by President Joe Biden and Secretary of State Antony Blinken. In their letter, the 55 members of Congress took care to denounce Hamas’ heinous attack, which resulted in the deaths of more than 1,200 people in Israel. They referred to it as the” worst act of violence committed against Jews since the Holocaust.”
The group outlined five certain areas of responsibility for the Biden administration, emphasizing the necessity of denouncing hostility on both sides of the conflict, the quick facilitation of humanitarian aid, and international law on warfare. Reps. Pramila Jayapal( Wash. ) and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez( N. ), two well-known progressives in the House, are among the signatories. Y. ) as well as Ayanna Pressley( Mass ). ), who have been denigrated by liberal media and threatened with harm due to their outspoken support of Palestinians. Reps. Ilhan Omar( Minn.) and Rashida Tlaib( Mich. ), two additional members, chose not to sign their names. Blinken and the State Department might not pay much attention to the group’s demands because, according to internal emails viewed by HuffPost, the department is telling diplomats never to discuss de-escalation in public. The letter also comes shortly after Jewish President Isaac Herzog raised concerns by claiming that Israeli civilians were instantly to blame for Hamas militants’ actions, implying that Israel’s right-wing leadership is not particularly concerned with preventing civilian deaths. # 13 of the advertisement
Herzog stated at a press conference on Friday that” it is an entire nation out there that is concerned.” ” This rhetoric about civilians not being aware and not involved is not true. It’s certainly true at all. But, Biden noted on Friday that they had a chance to rise up.” We can’t lose sight of the fact that the vast majority of Palestinians had nothing to do with Hamas’ horrifying attacks, and they’re suffering because of it ,” he said. Our teams are working in the area under my direction, including immediately contacting the governments of Israel, Egypt, Jordan, and other Muslim countries, as well as the UN, to mobilize support, according to Biden. According to a Washington Post report, 500 Americans are now among those imprisoned in Gaza. The pressure on Israeli leadership to conduct military operations” according to international law ,” which forbids the targeting of civilians, came first on the House Democrats’ list of priorities. According to Gaza’s health ministry, more than 1,500 people have been killed in Gaza, including about 500 children. Advertising &# 13,
Secondly, the Democratic party urged the Biden administration to restart as soon as possible the delivery of food, water, fuel, electricity, and other essential supplies that are currently blocked by Israeli forces. Israel has declared that the blockade will last until the hostages taken prisoner by Hamas militants during their surprise attack are brought back. According to the letter, the Biden administration should” discourage any hate crimes and backlash against any British, including Jews and Muslims ,” including by letting the American people know that neither Hamas nor Palestinians are one and the same. ( Hamas is the sole ruler of the Gaza Strip, which is largely populated by kids and teenagers. ) The letter also called for sending humanitarian aid to both Israelis and Palestinians as well as establishing a humanitarian corridor to provide healthy escape routes for Israeli civilians. Democratic candidates’ and other common figures’ statements in favor of the Palestinians have come under close scrutiny. Above is a copy of the entire letter. embedded content ] Advertisement &# 13,
