LOADINGERROR LOADING. Rep. Earl Blumenauer, a progressive Democrat who has been the representative for Portland, Oregon for 24 years, declared Monday that he will not be seeking reelection when his term ends. Blumenauer told Willamette Week that he doesn’t believe that spending two more years in Congress would be the best way to work on causes he is passionate about. He intends to make his conclusion widely known afterwards on Monday, according to the outlet. “I am quitting the House of Representatives since I intend to be more actively engaged in my locality,” he went on. If someone believes I have something of value to provide, I am open to attempting to offer assistance. Blumenauer’s leaving the House Ways and Means Committee, which is a powerful one, will probably provoke a contest among Democrats who want to fill his seat in Oregon’s 3rd Congressional District. Only members of the Democratic Party can vote in the state’s primary for the 2024 election, taking place on May 21st, 2024. Congressperson.
