A Leading Think Tank for the Democratic Establishment Calls for a Ceasefire “Now”

Since Israel started bombing Gaza, the Biden administration and the majority of Democrats in Congress have been most reluctant to declare ceasefire, according to the Center for American Progress.
In a major development, CAP—possibly the most powerful think tank in the Democrat establishment—published an article on Friday urging Congress and the Biden administration to “urge an urgent humanitarian ceasefire.” Allison McManus, top director for national security and foreign policy, and President Patrick Gaspard are the authors of the article. We need a ceasefire, Gaspard afterward remarked on Twitter. Now. ) The administration and Congress should give priority to five actions listed in the post right away.
The administration’s present policy is in conflict with the call for a ceasefire. Biden said,” None, no possibility,” when asked about the likelihood of a ceasefire last week. The short-term pauses that the Biden administration supports are supported by CAP:
The latest humanitarian catastrophe will worsen dramatically if the conflict continues at the intensity seen over the past several weeks, with Gaza’s health care system already on the verge of collapse. To ensure that both Israel and—through coordination with Qatar and other regional partners— Hamas comply, Congress and the administration must move quickly to negotiate a humanitarian ceasefire. A negotiated ceasefire would enable the development of a clearer long-term strategy to combat Hamas, aid in the safe return of hostages, and improve the humanitarian situation more than the existing brief pauses.
Israel has waged war on Hamas in Gaza ever since the heinous attack by the Palestinians on October 7 that claimed the lives of about 1,200 people. According to the nearby health ministry, the assault resulted in the deaths of over 11, 000 people, including more than 4, 600 children. Israel has intermittently either significantly or fully limited access to food, water, fuel, and electricity. According to the UN, 1.4 million people in Gaza—more than half the population—are currently privately displaced.
According to Gaspard and McManus, Israel’s” collective punishment has brutalized thousands of innocent civilians and merely jeoparded prospects for lasting peace.” Shared punishment is clearly defined as a war crime under international law. Both Israel and Hamas are charged in the article with” major human rights violations.”
Gaspard served as the Democratic National Committee’s executive director and the US ambassador to South Africa while Barack Obama was president. He served as the president of the George Soros-founded Open Society Foundations before joining CAP. In the past, CAP has occasionally broken off from the administration. However, given his present position, Gaspard has spoken about the war in an exceedingly outspoken manner. Gaspard criticized Hillary Clinton earlier this month for her steadfastness in rejecting calls for a ceasefire.
I’m astounded by the unwavering certainty and hearing that there is expertise about starting a war that some have and that those who are protesting lack. I recall objecting to my government’s decision to authorize war in Iraq. We were informed that our comprehension was limited. With this assurance, https ://t.co/eRewDFkb7t

People “keep telling me that the situation in Gaza is’ challenging,” Gaspard wrote on social media in late October. Nothing complicated about being able to say that killing innocent people is bad and needs to stop, he continued. When it was Hamas, we said it. Then that Israel is the culprit, we can declare it. This is incorrect. This has to stop.
Gaspard emphasized the need for an instant ceasefire after the article was published on Friday. He claimed that a ceasefire should be required before offering more aid to Israel in yet another break with the Biden administration.
I have n’t been unsure of what we’re seeing or what I’ve repeatedly demanded. not at all. A ceasefire is required. Today. I’m pressing for conditions, including a ceasefire on any aid, because I am also certain that this issue will be discussed in Congress.

The published paper by CAP also transcends a ceasefire. Supporting Israel’s defense needs is the authors ‘ second priority. Their strategy for doing so is different from what the Biden administration has proposed. Sending offensive weapons “likely to be used fraudulently,” like 155mm artillery shells, is particularly rejected by Gaspard and McManus. The administration has never made any efforts to restrict military assistance to CAP’s preferred more defensive weapons. Instead, the administration has suggested sending Israel$ 14 billion in primarily military aid—without any conditions.
A third plank is giving people in Gaza charitable aid. The Biden administration has pushed for humanitarian aid, as stated by Gaspard and McManus, but they also point out that as the conflict continues, the existing levels of aid “are but a drop in the bucket.” The various priorities are promoting a political resolution to the conflict and making sure that US aid is given in accordance with policies that support animal rights. Since Israel started bombing Gaza, the Biden administration and the majority of Democrats in Congress have been most reluctant to declare ceasefire, according to the Center for American Progress. At an event in New York City in 2018, Patrick Gaspard was present. Non si tratta di una questione che richiede una base giuridica. Sign up for the Mother Jones Daily newsletter to battle malicious misinformation and track the topics that are making headlines. The Center for American Progress has lately declared the imperative of a ceasefire between Israel and Gaza: they called on the Biden administration and Congress to demand an immediate ceasefire to provide a humane resolution. The piece was penned by President Patrick Gaspard and Allison McManus, Senior Director of National Security and International Policy. Now is the time to choose peace.”)

Gaspard exclaimed on Twitter that a ceasefire was urgently needed, asserting that the time had come to make a decision in favour of peace. This text proposes that five steps should be taken without delay by both the government and Congress. In contrast, the plea for a cease-fire contradicts the current stance of the administration. When inquired about the likelihood of a ceasefire recently, Biden answered, “Zero prospects.” The Center for American Progress (CAP) is advocating for a ceasefire over the limited breaks proposed by the Biden administration in the short-term.
