Gaza’s Health System Is “On Its Knees”

Hospitals are on the verge of collapse as Israel continues its ground invasion in Gaza City, and calls for a truce mount after the sixth week of war. The Palestine Red Crescent Society announced on Sunday that one of the main Gaza hospitals, Al-Quds Hospital, was “out-of-service and no longer operational”.

Hospitals are on the verge of collapsing as Israel continues its ground invasion of Gaza City and demands a ceasefire mount for the fifth week of the conflict. The Al-Quds, one of the major hospitals in northern Gaza, was declared “out of service and no more operational” on Sunday by the Palestine Red Crescent Society due to a lack of fuel and power. The organization adds that the facility had been “left to fend for itself under continued Jewish bombardment, posing serious risks to the medical staff, patients, and displaced civilians,” adding that “medical staff are making every effort to provide care to patients and the wounded, yet resorting to standard medical methods amid severe humanitarian conditions.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed that Israel had “designated routes to a safe zone north of Gaza City” when speaking to CNN’s Dana Bash on Sunday. The International Committee of the Red Cross was unable to confirm that evacuations were happening, despite claims made by the Israel Defense Forces that they had made passages from three hospitals in northeastern Gaza available for civilians to use. Any human loss, in my opinion, is tragic, and the blame should be firmly placed on Hamas, Netanyahu said.
Jewish officials claim that thousands of people who have been displaced by strikes are taking refuge in hospitals, which Hamas militants are using as a cover for their military operations. Nearly 1.6 million people have been internally displaced in the Gaza Strip since the dangerous Hamas attack on October 7 that killed about 1, 200 Israeli civilians and resulted in more than 200 hostages, and according to Gaza officials, the death toll has reached 11, 000. Netanyahu told CNN that this “question will be addressed after the war” when asked if he would accept responsibility for failing to stop the Hamas attack.
The World Health Organization ( WHO ) director general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated earlier this week that Gaza’s “health system is on its knees” and that two-thirds of primary healthcare facilities and half of the 36 hospitals in the Gaza Strip were not operating.
The WHO reported on Sunday that it had lost contact with its contacts at Al-Shifa, the biggest hospital in Gaza. The largest health complex in Gaza, Al-Shifa Hospital, has reportedly been attacked several times over the past 48 hours, killing a number of people and injuring numerous others, according to the organization. The intensive care unit was damaged by the bombardment, and the hospital’s sheltering areas where relocated patients were staying have also been harmed. According to reports, an treated patient passed away when the electricity was cut at one point.
There were around 100 exhumed dead bodies inside the hospital, according to a doctor at Al- Shifa who told CBS ‘ Marwan Al- Ghoul:
There are more than 100 lifeless bodies in Gaza’s Shifa hospital, according to a doctor, and there is nowhere for them to be buried. twitter.com/R7wHQY3Rjb

Netanyahu has rejected increased global calls for a ceasefire without the release of all hostages in the midst of the worsening humanitarian crisis. Thousands of protesters gathered in London this weekend to denounce Israel’s defense attack on Gaza. Hospitals are being pushed to the brink of collapse as Israel continues its ground invasion of Gaza City and demands a ceasefire mount on the fifth week of the conflict. The Al-Quds, one of the major hospitals in northeastern Gaza, was “out of service and no more functional,” according to the Palestine Red Crescent Society on Sunday.

As the fighting continues into its sixth week, medical facilities struggle to cope with the influx of patients and international calls for a ceasefire build. On Sunday, the Palestine Red Crescent Society reported that due to a lack of electricity and fuel, the Al-Quds hospital located in the northern section of Gaza is not functioning. The statement from the organization described the dire humanitarian situation due to the limited medical supplies, food, and water, as well as the ongoing Israeli bombardment, leaving the medical staff in the facility to struggle in caring for the wounded and patients. Regardless, medical staff are doing everything they can, and even using traditional methods to try and provide assistance. Benjamin Netanyahu mengatakan kepada Dana Bash dari CNN, Ahad ini bahwa Israel telah menetapkan rute untuk zona aman di selatan kota Gaza. The Israel Defense Forces declared that they had permitted escape routes out of three hospitals situated in northern Gaza for civilians to leave, though the International Committee of the Red Cross could not provide proof that these evacuations were conducted. Netanyahu stated that he believes any deaths of innocent civilians are regrettable, and that the fault for these losses should be attributed solely to Hamas. Reportedly, due to the bombings, thousands of civilians have had to find refuge in medical facilities, which Israeli personnel allege are being used as a form of armor for Hamas military action.
