Die Kommission kann gemäß Artikel 264 delegierte Rechtsakte erlassen in Bezug auf Prior to being chosen as House speaker last month, Representative Mike Johnson (R-La) had a long career standing up for Christian speech and events in public elementary schools and universities. He was the senior lawyer at Alliance Defending Freedom for 8 years, which is a pro-evangelical legal organization devoted to the prohibition of LGBTQ+ rights and abortion. In his job as a constitutional lawyer, Johnson handled multiple cases that sought to reduce the gap between church and state. This is concerning because it brings up doubts about whether or not the person second in line to the presidency of the United States respects the right of freedom of religion expressed in the initial Amendment of the Constitution, which states that “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion.”. In 2021, Johnson represented Stockwell Place Elementary during a lawsuit issued by a group of Jewish parents. The school had been criticized for holding organized prayer sessions, teaching religious songs in the classroom, and encouraging the formation of a teacher-run organization called Stallions for Christ that convened during break times. The lawsuit was filed by the Jewish parents of two children enrolled in school, claiming they had been subjected to religious bias. They observed that the school had a teacher with a Christian cross on their door, a Nativity scene in the school library, and a graduation program with Christian songs and a student-led prayer. Additionally, two local sheriffs gave religious speeches during the graduation. The parents alleged that their kids were bullied and mocked by their peers for not taking part in the religious songs. The full case can be found by clicking the link. The parents expressed their worries to the school principal, who supposedly reacted by protecting the school’s Nativity scene and sacred songs, and advised the parents to “handle it.” The parents voiced their grievances to the school superintendent, who asserted that it was acceptable for the teacher-led prayer group to continue, citing the popular sentiment in the southern United States, effectively buttressing his position with the phrase “welcome to the Bible Belt.”.
