Y. seemed to be appreciative of the fact that Rep. P. had come to their aid. Jamie Raskin, a Democrat from Maryland and a longtime law professor, was one of the 31 people to vote against the expulsion of Santos, who was facing federal charges. Raskin received a thank-you note from Santos after the vote, however, based on his response it is unlikely any more will be sent. Raskin claimed that implementing the resolution would be “a bad example to follow” as Santos “has yet to be convicted of the charges described in the resolution or found responsible by the House’s internal system for the ethical issues.”. On Friday, Santos expressed gratitude to Raskin and the other congressional officers who casted their opposition vote against his ousting because they respected the concept of appropriate process and the notion of guiltlessness until appropriately proven guilty. Santos had deceived himself if he believed Raskin’s ballot indicated his approval. To demonstrate his disapproval, Raskin marked up the letter highlighting mistakes, and scribbled at the bottom that he desired somebody had inspected it in advance. He gave Santos some words of wisdom in the margin mentioning that stepping down is nothing to be ashamed of.
