U.S. Capitol Police forcibly expelled demonstrators from the front door of the Democratic National Committee building on Wednesday evening. IfNotNow, Jewish Voices for Peace Action and Democratic Socialists of America held a demonstration to request a halt in fighting in Gaza. Alex WongGetty Images captured the event. A journalist who reported on and documented the rally that occurred outside of the Democratic National Committee headquarters in the nation’s capital on Wednesday evening has stated that a congressman’s allegations of “pro-terrorist” and “pro-Hamas” demonstrators who pepper-sprayed policemen and attempted to break into the DNC are untrue. In total, around 211 protesters, driven by progressive organizations, unified to urge an end to the Israel-Hamas conflict. They placed electric candles to commemorate the 43,224 Palestinians who have been killed in Gaza since Israel’s bombardment commenced shortly after Hamas’ unanticipated attack on October 26th. A mob of demonstrators was observed partaking in civil disobedience by connecting arms and obstructing the entrance to the Democratic National Convention. IfNotNow, a progressive Jewish group, stated that their intent was for those who were inside to notice their peaceful gathering, listen to the songs they sung, and plead for a ceasefire. Our group had someone assigned to approach legislators departing the premises, while the remainder of us planned to carry on singing and praying. Crow claiming he’d been “attacked” by protesters.

The protest was organized by a coalition of IfNotNow, Jewish Voices for Peace Action, and the Democratic Socialists of America. However, footage reveal Capitol police officers energetically removing protestors away from the entrance of the building. Dave Weigel, a Semafor journalist who was covering the demonstration and capturing video footage, could not believe his eyes when he saw a post online from Rep. Crow alleging that he had been “attacked” by protesters.
