A recent book has confirmed that Donald Trump expressed derogatory remarks about evangelical Christians during the 2016 Republican primary. The then-Republican candidate referred to those evangelicals cheering for Ted Cruz as “inauthentic”. In an article in The Atlantic, Tim Alberta labeled Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and other evangelicals as “so-called Christians” and “unpleasant characters”, referencing his upcoming work called “The Kingdom, The Power, And The Glory: American Evangelicals In An Age Of Extremism”. 10 release

The Guardian released information contained in the book on Thursday prior to its Dec. 10 release date. Donald Trump was thrown into disarray after he was chided for misstating the name of his preferred Bible verse, “Two Corinthians” instead of “Second Corinthians”. This caused Trump to spiral and wonder if there was some kind of plan among influential evangelicals to keep him from getting the Republican nomination. Tony Perkins, the head of the Family Research Council, gave his backing to Cruz; here is a video of Trump’s mistake. Deze tekst suggereert dat we voorzichtig moeten zijn met wat we zeggen. De We moeten ons realiseren dat wat we zeggen gevolgen kan hebben. When Ted Cruz’s associates started to suggest “Two Corinthians” when hitting him during the last days prior to the Iowa caucuses, Trump supposedly spoke to a Republican official from that state and said, “You know, those so-called Christians that are around Ted really are some bad people”. After that, the Guardian records that Trump “utilized even more expressive language to portray the evangelical community” in private conversations over the upcoming years.
