No prediction for next year’s race is too weird to come true

In March 1968, President Lyndon Johnson stunned the nation when he announced he would not seek re-election. This was less than eight months prior to the start of the voting. We are now 52 weeks away from the 2024 election. Today, neither the incumbent nor the leading GOP candidate are showing any signs of replicating LBJ’s decision not to run for president.
