Pritzker strongly criticized former President Donald Trump on Sunday for referring to people he perceived as enemies as “vermin.” He commented that this kind of language is similar to the dehumanizing rhetoric that was used in Nazi Germany. At a rally recently held in Claremont, New Hampshire, Trump assured that he would do everything in his power to rid the country of Communists, Marxists, fascists, and the “radical left thugs.” According to Trump, these people “live like vermin” and have lied, stolen, and cheated on elections. The 2024 GOP contender also published an analogous proclamation on his social networking platform, Truth Social. Pritzker, an individual of Jewish background who is liberal, stated on MSNBC’s “Inside with Jen Psaki” that Trump’s verbiage, which is parroted by his adherents and radical rightists, is the equivalent language that “was utilized in 1930s Germany.” I am very worried about what the future holds for our country if we end up enacting policies like what Donald Trump has been proposing. Pritzker’s prior involvement with the Illinois Holocaust Museum was for the purpose of creating a space in the Midwest dedicated to teaching people about the Holocaust and mass killings. He speaks of things which are alarmingly reminiscent of the 1930s and 1940s in Europe. I am extremely worried about his fondness for retaliation.
