Smurfs, Butts and Elbows: Petty GOP Fights Consume Congress

Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), Republicans have been taking matters into their own hands with motions to censure and impeach, declining to approve the legislation to fund their own government, and Tuesday, supposedly taking it to a new level with a “kidney punch”. “I used to teach 4-to-6-year-olds. That’s exactly what I’m seeing coming out of Congress,” Kennedy said.

Senator Kennedy commented that the individuals in question were more well-mannered than some of the individuals present. Sen. Elizabeth Warren, a Democrat from Massachusetts, shook her head as she told HuffPost, “We need more women in Congress.” In a social media post, Senator Tina Smith (D-Minn.) commented on how violence and threats at her workplace increased significantly on Tuesday following a meeting of Republicans in the Capitol basement to address a proposed government shutdown. Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) was behind the suggestion. The short-term extension of government support is expected to be approved with the backing of the Democrats, which is essentially the same matter that stirred Republican conservatives to oppose McCarthy’s authority.
