Additionally, this newsletter provides insight on an important policy measure that has benefited many people, yet surprisingly, has gone largely unnoticed. Consequently, this lack of awareness has obstructed the continuation of this program after its expiration. The content of the report focuses on childcare. It is a challenge to locate decent, inexpensive child care services in the U.S., as many of you are aware based on personal experience or by reading articles in HuffPost about the topic. The expense of operating a high quality child care center is considerable, so the cost to families may be beyond their means. These issues have been around for a long time but have become more severe since the coronavirus crisis, resulting in a decrease of income for businesses, leaving some in the red and causing others to either decrease the amount of people they can serve or shut down. People that lived through the pandemic had difficulties getting staff members back when business came back, partially because other companies such as retailers and restaurants had more freedom to hike up wages. To help with this, the federal government presented an emergency sum of $24 billion which was included in the American Rescue Plan passed under the leadership of President Joe Biden in 2021. State governments were granted the money, which they then distributed to providers.
