United Nations Approves New Militarized Force in Haiti

The United Nations Security Council has given the okay to creating and sending out a group of international police to help control the rising danger and broad-scale criminal activities in Haiti. Kenya, which is set to take the lead, is requiring that the global community provide all the necessary funds for the force to be put in place. Out of the fifteen members of the Security Council, around thirteen, such as the United States, were in favor of the setup of a Kenyan-led section. A timetable for deployment of forces to Haiti has yet to be decided upon, but in late September United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Kenyan Foreign Affairs Minister Alfred Mutua stated that troops could be ready to go in a few months. “

Russia and China declined to participate in the voting process, citing their worries with the historical interventions made by other nations in the island’s affairs. The Kenyan cabinet and legislative body have okayed the utilization of 1,000 Kenyan officers to serve as the commanding force for the peacekeeping mission, which is to be paid for by the American government.
