California Coast Hit with Colossal Waves and Devastating Flooding for Third Day

Since Thursday, large waves up to 40 feet high have been pounding Southern California’s coast communities, causing massive flooding and dangerous ripcurrents. CNN reports that the extreme conditions have caused beach closures and washed away vehicles, as well as flooded seaside businesses, residences and businesses. Some of these communities remain under water.

Since Thursday, unnaturally large waves, some as high as 40 feet, have been battering Southern California’s coastal communities, flooding them severely and causing dangerous rip currents. The extreme weather has reportedly forced beach closures, washed away cars, and flooded harbour businesses and homes, according to CNN reports. Many of these communities are also coping with the damage caused by earlier floods earlier in the year.

While San Diego and Orange counties are under flood warnings until 2 a.m. on Monday, Ventura County, one of the hardest hit areas, closed its beaches through New Year’s Eve. San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Ventura, &amp, and Los Angeles harbors have been declared illegal by the National Weather Service.
Climate change might be at fault. Dr. Daniel Swain, a climate scientist at the University of California-Los Angeles, noted on X on Thursday that it has been demonstrated that climate change is causing sea levels to rise. Over the past few years, California has suffered greatly from the effects of climate change, with a number of dangerous floods, wildfire, and droughts—all natural occurrences made worse by rising temperatures.
The devastating waves and their aftermath are depicted in the following images and videos:

Unusually massive waves, some reaching up to 40 feet, have been relentlessly battering coastal towns in Southern California since Thursday, causing severe floods and hazardous rip currents. CNN reports suggest that harsh weather conditions have led to the shutdown of beaches, the disappearance of vehicles due to strong currents, and inundations at coastal businesses and homes. Many of these communities are yet to recover fully from previous flooding incidents that happened earlier in the year. On Thursday, strong waves pounded the seawalls on the California coast, causing injuries to several individuals who were washed away by the water as they were observing the waves.
