 Pope Pious XII delivered a Christmas Eve radio broadcast 84 years ago today, starting in the year of his election, in which he fervently pleaded for world peace while denouncing the ideologies that had sparked the Second World War. The targets of his statements were obvious, even though he did n’t specifically mention any.
