Good News in History, December 29

Ireland adopted its Constitution on this day in 1980, a decade-and-a-half after the Irish War of Independence, and its treaty induced interim government. It was a document that was committed to democratic ideals and enshrined people as masters. It also gave every child the right to a free primary school education provided by the state. (1937)
