Enlarge. Congressional Library. I have a powerful response to promotions for investment goods. The core message conveyed by these advertisements is that you cannot rely on others to look after you financially, hence, it’s crucial that you start planning now to guarantee a financially stable retirement. The optimal approach would be to acquire the annuity or any other product being promoted in the advertisement. The solution to future financial instability is capitalism. If we cannot rely on each other to ensure a safe retirement for everyone—via public schemes such as Social Security—then we are in serious trouble. I feel a powerful response every time I learn about the skyrocketing expenses of long-term care.
