On Friday, a federal appeals court determined that Texas must remove a previously-installed floating obstacle on the Rio Grande. This ruling is detrimental to GOP Governor Greg Abbott’s plans in response to the climbing number of migrants entering the United States from Mexico. Greg Abbott mandated stern measures to prevent foreigners from invading the United States without permission. The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals mandated that Texas put a stop to any task regarding the boundary approximately 1,000 foot (300-meter) long and relocate it to the edge of the river. The ruling agreed with a ruling made in September by a lower court, something that Abbott labeled as “incorrect” and assumed would be reversed. The Court of New Orleans declined Texas’s request, making it the second loss suffered by the state on the matter of its operations on the border that week. On Wednesday, a federal judge stated that even though Texas officials had objections, U.S. Border Patrol agents can still take down the razor wire along the riverbank which had been installed by the state. This accusation has been ongoing for a while, with Texas claiming that certain areas of the Rio Grande do not have to follow national rules for navigable waters. The judges stated that the lower court was right to support President Biden’s action. Judge Dana Douglas wrote in the court’s opinion that safety for navigation and federal operations on the Rio Grande, and any probable risk to individuals caused by the floating barrier were taken into account. In a statement posted on X, Governor Abbott branded the ruling “clearly wrong” and announced that the state will be making a bid for a new hearing from the court without delay.
