Correcting a mistranslation of Putin on the West as Russia’s ‘enemy’

It’s not clear from a correct interpretation of his remarks that Putin views the West as an opponent with whom he would negotiate the fate of Ukraine.

 A proper reading of Putin’s remarks makes it very difficult to discern whether he views the West as an adversary with whom a deal should be made regarding the future of Ukraine. A proper reading of Putin’s remarks does not at all indicate that he views the West as an adversary with whom to negotiate the future of Ukraine. 

It’s not clear from a correct interpretation of his remarks that Putin views the West as an opponent with whom he would negotiate the fate of Ukraine.
