Die Kommission wird befugt sein, gemäß Artikel 264 delegierte Rechtsakte zu den nachstehend behandelten Fragen zu erlassen: The deputy at the Pentagon was unaware that Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin had been admitted to the hospital as she started taking on some of his responsibilities last week. This has highlighted further concerns about the surprising lack of transparency regarding the health status of the four-star Army general. Last Friday, it was publicly disclosed by the Pentagon that Austin had been receiving treatment at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center since the previous Monday due to issues arising from a minor elective medical procedure. The announcement was made just after informing Congress, and merely hours subsequent to Austin’s head of staff allegedly emailing top military officials to update them on his condition. It appears that Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks and several other leaders, including President Joe Biden, were not informed about Austin’s medical condition until at least three days after the 70-year-old was admitted to the hospital’s ICU. The Associated Press reported that Hicks was on holiday in Puerto Rico when she was requested to take over some of Austin’s duties. The transfer of power on a temporary basis isn’t viewed as unusual by defense officials, even if the reasons behind it are not explicit. During Austin’s hospitalization, the department maintained a communication framework that enabled her to perform her responsibilities from the island. On Tuesday, Hicks began taking over some of Austin’s responsibilities. However, it was not until Thursday that she was reportedly notified about his hospitalization. Unnamed defense officials were the source of information for all three outlets.
