Trump Ends His Fraud Trial By Lashing Out at the Judge—Again

The former president Trump concluded his $370 million civil trial for fraud in a New York City Courtroom today in the same way that he began it: by berating the judge and breaking court orders. Trump called the case brought against him by New York Attorney-General Letitia James a “fraud on me”.

In the same way that he took part in many of his$ 370 million civil fraud trial, former President Trump ended it now in a courtroom in New York City by berating the judge and disobeying orders.
According to NBC News, whose reporters were present ( recordings were n’t allowed ), Trump said of the case brought by New York Attorney General Letitia James,” This is a fraud on me.”
Trump continued by telling Judge Arthur Engoron,” You have your personal agenda.” ” You ca n’t listen for longer than a minute!”
Chris Kise, Trump’s attorney, was urged by Engoron to” control your client,” according to Politico.
In a tense email exchange between Kise and Engoron, the judge stated that he would only permit Trump to speak if the former ( and aspirant ) president promised not to” comment on irrelevant matters,” “deliver, plaintiff’s staff, or the New York State Court System,” or “impugn myself, my staff,” during the closing arguments of today. Trump, as we all know, enjoys a spotlight. ( Typically, defendants do n’t speak during closing arguments; instead, their attorneys do. )
Even after Engoron asked him to “promise to really comment on the facts and the law,” according to NBC, Trump ignored the judge’s question and immediately launched into his response. At a press conference he hosted, Trump responded to his outburst in court with another, calling the trial “witch hunt” and “election interference,” and asserting that the defendant should be entitled to damages.
A dramatic 24 hours culminated in the former president’s incendiary remarks: as I reported this morning, 12 hours after Trump referred to Engoron as a” TRUMP HATING JUDGE” preside over an” RIGGED AND UNFAIR TRIAL,” the judge was the target of swatting—a false report of an emergency meant to elicit an aggressive police response. Authorities claimed the threat was false, and a court official informed me that they had increased security today in response to the claim.
Today’s incident was by no means the only one Trump made during the months-long course of the trial; as my colleague Russ Choma has noted, Trump has frequently argued with Engoron, including during courtroom appearances, and has frequently falsely accused the clerk.
Before the trial, which focused on other charges, including the falsification of business records, began, Engoron had now found Trump guilty of fraud, as Russ had originally reported. The judge only needs to decide how much money Trump owes at this point. In a New York City courtroom today, former President Trump concluded his$ 370 million civil fraud trial in the same manner in which he took part: by berating the judge and disobeying court orders. Trump referred to the case brought by New York Attorney General Letitia James as” This is a fraud on me.”
