Aircraft Makes Emergency Landing After Colliding With ‘Airport Infrastructure’ Upon Takeoff

The aircraft “overran the end of the runway before becoming flying,” according to The Aviation Herald.

The aircraft became airborne about 1100 meters/3600 feet past the runway end after colliding with a portion of the airport’s infrastructure, climbed through 50 feet AGL about 2600 meters / 8500 feet before stopping the climb at 4000 feet, burned off fuel, and then returned to Belgrade for an unharmed landing on runway 30L about 55 minutes after taking off. There were no wounds, but the aircraft was severely damaged.

” Passengers reported that something broke right after takeoff, the plane shook, and they spent about an hour in a holding before landing back at Belgrade.” The Aviation Herald noted that they were immediately escorted off the aircraft and given no information other than the fact that it was a minor incident. Yet, they could see that the left wing had broken off.

At 16:38 UTC, Flight JU324 was parked at one of the intersecting taxiways more than halfway down Belgrade’s Nikola Tesla Airport runway 30L ( see image below ). Soon after, the aircraft started its departure roll and became flying at 16:39 UTC. The aircraft’s kept side suffered significant damage during takeoff when it collided with the instrument landing system array on the opposing runway. There is evidence of a longer gash running down the side of the aircraft as well as damage to the wing root, which is where the plane’s body meets.
Soon after takeoff, JU324 entered holding holding close to Belgrade and remained in the air for only under 60 minutes. At 17:36 UTC, the flight touched down on runway 30L ( the same runway from which it had departed ).
Runway 12R/30L, the airport’s following and newest runway, only opened in July 2023, and as a result of the accident, its instrument landing category has been downgraded from Category III to Category I.”}]] [[{“value”:”

“Passengers reported that something broke immediately after takeoff, the aircraft shook. They then entered a holding area for about an hour, before returning to Belgrade to land. The Aviation Herald reported that the passengers were quickly escorted from the aircraft. They weren’t told much, except that it was a minor accident, but they could see a piece of the left wing had broken.

Flight JU324 parked on the Nikola Tesla Airport’s runway 30L in Belgrade at 16:38 UTC, on one of the intersecting taxies more than half the way down the runway. (See image below). The aircraft took off shortly after and was airborne by 16:39 UTC. The aircraft’s left side suffered severe damage when it hit the instrument landing system array of the runway opposite. The aircraft’s left side is severely damaged. A long gash can be seen along the side, as well as damage at the wing root.
JU324 was in the air for just under 60 minutes after takeoff. The flight landed on runway 30L, the same runway from which it took off, at 17:36 UTC.
After the accident, the instrument landing category for runway 12R has been downgraded to Category I. This is the second and newest airport runway, which opened in July 2023.
