The hearings on Monday focus on whether prosecutors can withhold certain classified material from the defendants during the discovery phase. Trump and his team are expected to have an initial private meeting with U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon to thoroughly discuss the case, as stated in a court document mentioned by CNN. Cannon will conduct a private hearing exclusively with special counsel Jack Smith’s team. Trump’s co-defendants in the case, his aide Walt Nauta and Mar-a-Lago property manager Carlos De Oliveira, are not permitted to be present at the hearing because they do not have the necessary security clearance to access the relevant documents, according to ABC News. Their attorneys will attend the event. The hearing is taking place at a secure information facility in Fort Pierce, Florida, according to ABC. Smith recently asked Cannon to review a previous decision to reveal the names of witnesses. Smith expressed concern that if the discovery material is made public as ordered by the Court, it could put potential witnesses at risk of threats, intimidation, and harassment, as has already occurred in cases involving defendant Trump. A further hearing will take place next month to decide if the trial will proceed in May as scheduled. Trump, Nauta, and De Oliveira have denied any misconduct. Please consider supporting HuffPost.
