Elderly British Couple Reportedly Receive Letter From Council Saying Their Home Subject To ‘Compulsory Purchase’ For Housing Migrants

[[{“value”:”According to reports, an elder British couple received a letter from their council suggesting that their house could be bought and used to house immigrants.
According to Jose and Ted Saunders, the North Northamptonshire Council” strongly worded letter” warned them that their £200,000 home might be content to” compulsory purchase,” according to Daily Mail.
The authorities were preparing to seize an older American couple’s recently purchased £200,000 home and use it to house migrants, according to a letter they received from their city council. Ben Swann wrote,” The couple just moved into their home in November, and they got the notice next month.
” We are writing because we have reason to believe you are the owner of the aforementioned property or land.” The letter read,” We would like to take this opportunity to learn what your intentions are for the premises or site.
” At a time of great housing need, clear privately owned properties have been identified by the government as possible sources of community blight and as wasted resources.” It continued,” It is setting targets for Local Authorities and is requiring action by them to reduce this problem.
According to the statement,” Homes for Ukraine, Afghan Resettlement, and Asylum Dispersal” are three projects in which the North Northamptonshire Council assists refugees and asylum seekers.

Daily Mail publishes:
It claimed that the council could yet compel them to sell their tidy mid-terrand house in Rushden, close to Wellingborough, because it was deemed to be an empty property or “derelict.”
” I could n’t believe it,” exclaimed 76-year-old retired caretaker Jose. We relocated to Rushden to help with my grand-daughter’s childcare and discovered this charming small residence.
It seems completely improper to force us to sell it in order to make room for refugees and asylum seekers.
We are writing as we have reason to believe that the above-mentioned premises… is empty or unused, the letter, which was addressed to” Empty Properties and sites initiative,” had their actual address in bold.
The government has identified vacant privately-owned properties as a possible source of community blight and as an ineffective resource when there is an urgent need for housing.
The letter went on to say that the authority was” struggle” to find suitable housing for asylum seekers, primarily single men, and that there was a” considerable increase” in positive immigration decisions being made in their favor.
The perfect long-term solution, it continued, would be to accommodate tenants using vacant properties, which would benefit the project’s owners.
It stated that the council could issue a mandatory purchase order for the land.

To learn the reason for receiving the letter, the couple called the council.
The council expressed regret, claiming that their staff had misidentified the home as potentially for enforced purchase.
The couple criticized the policy, according to Daily Mail.
What on earth is the council doing making people sell their homes when someone owns perhaps an unoccupied house to house asylum seekers? Jose inquired, according to the media.
She continued,” The solution to this is to prevent them from coming in the first place, not to evict people from their homes.”
