Mitt Romney (R-Utah) supported Joe Biden in response to inquiries about the president’s mental sharpness following a special counsel’s report that portrayed the 81-year-old as an elderly man with substantial memory issues. Romney stated that he has collaborated with the president and has not observed anything unusual in his behavior. It was similar to President Trump mentioning Nikki Haley instead of Nancy Pelosi three times. Romney explained to HuffPost on Friday that occasionally people may use the incorrect word, referencing the mistakes that 77-year-old Donald Trump has made regarding world leaders in the past few weeks. Romney, the GOP’s former presidential nominee in 2012, also expressed concerns about Biden’s age being a significant factor in the election. He noted that being in one’s late 80s can make it challenging to handle the responsibilities of running the country. “He also mentioned that Donald Trump is not much younger,” he continued. Special counsel Robert Hur announced that the Department of Justice would not be pursuing charges against Biden for holding onto classified documents post-vice presidency, citing differences between Biden’s case and Trump’s, who did face charges after an investigation. However, Hur described Biden as an older man with a limited memory in the report, stating that he couldn’t remember certain key events. The White House and many Democrats criticized these claims as unnecessary and inappropriate. Biden expressed strong frustration at the suggestion that he had forgotten when his son had died during a heated last-minute press conference at the White House on Thursday.
